Introduction
What do you think of when you hear the word “quantum?”
Did you think of a really fast computer? I’d assume most people do, as the word is often referred to when computing. In fact, the definition of a quantum computer is a device that can process qubits instead of simple 1’s and 0’s. A qubit is a packet of those numbers processed at the same time. The potential to process information is exponentially faster.
It’s like the difference between your iPhone or Android today compared to that desktop box your parents brought home in the 80’s. Instead of watching the download bar increase for hours, you can click on something and it pops up instantly.
In a similar way, we can become quantum. We can upgrade our operating systems – our bodies – by connecting our internal processors to God to maximize our lives. Because, let’s face it, He is way better at thinking and making decisions than we are.
When we spend time meditating on God’s Word and practicing contemplative prayer we can be more effective followers of Jesus in our personal lives and in our businesses.
Are you ready for an upgrade? Let’s Go!
1. Upgrade in the Body
The Brain Connection
Brain scientists have mapped our neurological pathways over the last several decades. This is a robust and extensively studied area. The studies covered different sections of volunteers’ brains and had them complete different activities to see what parts of the brain processed electricity during the activity. Participants read, talked with friends, wrote a letter, played sports alone and competitively, played video games, etc.
They discovered one part of the brain was found to only be used while praying and meditating. A very isolated area called the pineal gland, located at the very center of the brain, was only activated during prayer and meditation, granting it the nickname “the antenna to God”.
The Physical Benefits of Prayer and Meditation
Physically activating your pineal gland happens in a quiet place with no distractions and continuous prayer or meditation. When taking the time to do this regularly, a cerebrospinal fluid is secreted down the 33 vertebras of the spinal cord to the lowest part, the sacrum, and comes back up via the outside of the spinal cord. It’s about a three-and-a-half-day journey to complete. When it returns to the brain, calmness and peace is often experienced and enjoyed. In addition, melatonin is also secreted from the pineal gland. This is part of the God given natural sleeping cycle (circadian rhythm) we all have as an internal clock that helps us sleep well.
To summarize, when you engage in regular prayer and meditation with God, the activation of your pineal gland can put your mind and body at ease. When you are operating from a place of peace and rest, you can maximize your physical body to support your day-to-day efforts at a quantum level.
I recommend, at least 30 minutes of undisturbed prayer and meditation daily to get going (you may have to spend more time in order to relax and focus first). Starting the day with prayer, as our minds are most still in the early part of the day, is of great benefit. I consider this time as belonging to God already, as the law of ‘first fruits’ applies to my time as well as my wallet.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
– Matthew 6:6
2. Upgrade in Thought
Have you ever thought about someone and within a few moments they called you? Or you call someone and they say they were just thinking of you? What’s behind that?
I might say, at that moment, you were tapping into an area of your God-given quantum mind of thought. So how are our thoughts quantum? From my perspective, it’s a lot like the principle of gravity. You can feel it, but you can’t see or measure it with any relativity. It resides in the realm of the unknown where the Kingdom of God reigns. Holy Spirit sometimes gives us an awareness and understanding that cannot be explained other than the power of God at work in our lives. When you spend time in contemplative prayer and meditation, you can sense a prompting from the Spirit to think thoughts from God.
So, how do we activate a quantum thought? We align ourselves with the Word of God and steep our minds in Scripture so much that our thoughts center around His ways, character, and law.
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
– Psalm 1:1-2
Meditation on God’s word is important so we can focus our thoughts on God. It’s a big deal to read and meditate on Scripture daily because, without it, it’s hard to grow your quantum thinking with how loud the world around us is today.
Jesus says that “out of the heart the mouth speaks.” So, how can we think thoughts of God and elevate to a quantum level if His Word is not impressed on our hearts? We would just agree with every lie the devil whispers to us and be like sheep to the slaughter if we don’t know how to recognize God’s truth.
3. Upgrade in Word
Becoming quantum in word is when we learn and harness the power of the spoken word. We can use words for the good of the world and those around us by applying God’s truth and love to our work, our relationships, and more.
The power of quantum words clicks when you allow your Spirit influenced thoughts to team up with your words. Words spoken into the air activate the power of God in the spaces and lives He has given us influence in. The power of the prophetic word is so powerful because the word was put into the air as a seed for the future to yield to.
A friend of mine came to me one day when we were doing a ministry project together. He said a couple years prior he had a thought that we would one day do something in ministry together, but just never mentioned it. When I asked why he didn’t say anything then, he said it would have sounded weird and he didn’t have any proof that it would happen. I think this happens often: we defer to the natural mind and not the quantum mind because of fear or disbelief.
Knowing our power in the Spirit is the first step, but we have to choose to activate our quantum voice of authority or not. Through contemplative prayer and meditation we can learn to discern how God wants us to do this in our day to day.
A friend of mine has a large trucking and construction company and recognizes the power of spoken word within his business. After employees started to speak negatively and make jokes at the expense of others, he put a label on everyone’s computer that said, “Do not say anything negative.” An employee took the label off of his computer and threw it away, but my buddy slapped another one back on the computer within five minutes. You see, he understood the power of Proverbs 18:21:
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
– Proverbs 18:21
We have the ability to create faith or fear, life or death, through the words we speak. Using our voices as quantum means speaking God’s truth with authority and chasing away the spiritual forces of darkness like negativity, anxiety, depression, and worry.
4. Upgrade in Passion
Have you ever stopped in your tracks to watch someone who was so amazingly talented in their work? A person that just really loved what they did that they walked around with a smile?
I did just recently. I had to replace a tire on my car, and the gentlemen helping me had a great understanding of tires, an exceptional aurora of customer service, and the joy of the Lord. It was obvious. As he walked around the store it was hard not to watch him serve others with joy and excellence.
I believe he had found his quantum passion. Whether it was simply a love for serving others or a love for tires, I don’t know, but he was connected to God in a quantum way.
I’m sure you have experienced the opposite of this man too. We all have. It’s unfortunate when someone doesn’t like their work. It drains the energy from their bones, spirit, and soul – and does the same to those who must interact with them.
Identifying this passion of yours will help you operate in a quantum passion everyone will feel. My belief is that you can’t align your passion with just anything. God made you a certain way and it’s up to you to identify through prayer and meditation this very thing.
5. Upgrade in Business
Getting your business into a quantum state is simple if you have already done the above tasks of activating your prayers and you are connected with God. He will tell you specific strategies to do in your business. Let me just say, God is the God of finding your niche ‘void’ in the market to fill.
George Washington Carver was born into a black slave family in the 1800s. He saw abolition in his early life and applied to Iowa State University as the first black person ever granted acceptance there. In his later years, he wanted the cotton farmers to have a better quality of life, so he showed them how to plant sweet potatoes and peanuts aside from the cotton.
He is credited with developing over 300 uses of the peanut and, when this reached the ears of those in government, Congress called him in to testify about his genius abilities. They wanted to know how he invented all the different uses of the peanut. His reply was to give credit to God. He said, “I don’t know much about the peanut, but I know who made the peanut and He tells me what to do.”
George Washington Carver was experiencing quantum business. This is a business that God placed you in, and you depend on Him for each step. When you walk and partner with God, it’s an upgrade. Not only that, but you also have his mighty hand of protection and blessing.
In 1 Kings 17, Elijah adopted a decision-making method that wasn’t his own. It was his upgraded quantum operating system of obeying God. Even though he didn’t operate a business, many times our businesses are a warlike arena.
He declared a drought in the land to the wicked Ahab, Jezebel’s husband. He had knowledge about the future that no one else was privy to. All the data, best business practices, and news reports would have told him to become a prepper; to store up a good enough amount of food, water, and supplies to make it through. But no, he went to a creek east of the Jordan and stayed there three years because that was what God instructed him to do.
Little did Elijah know, the evil queen wanted him dead. There was a bounty on him that he didn’t know about. He was simply following the Lord, and it saved him.
The Bible is filled with stories where God makes a way. However, our current western faith has intertwined with current western business so much that it’s hard to look past the data and best practices to instead follow a God who doesn’t play by worldly rules.
A quantum business doesn’t have to strive for an edge with the competition because it is most likely pioneering a new frontier that God is opening up.
6. Upgrade in Leadership
What does quantum leadership look like? Simply said, it’s leadership God’s way. It’s a realm of peace in your heart that God has His hand on your business. This doesn’t happen on a macro level of ideals. It happens powerfully in microscopic decisions a leader makes and in the way a leader reacts in their daily role.
You have many opportunities to experience this every day. It happens when you don’t have the answers to a stressful decision or problem at work and in life; when you stop what you’re doing and talk with God; when He gives you the way, you have just made a quantum decision.
If you would like to venture more into this, I have a book out that was written during my prayer and meditation part of the day. It’s my best shot at putting into words what God laid on my heart and is called A Leader After God’s Own Heart. The book combines 31 ways leadership characteristics work on the battlefield, in the boardroom, and with your faith. This is great for a person to level up and get activated in God’s way of Leadership.
It takes work to level up, and the book will ask you to do some hard things to activate each day with a personal challenge. Be warned, it’s not an easy task to change your normal patterns, but it’s worth it.
