Proverbs 14:15 says that a simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thoughts to his steps. Today’s verse reminds us how important it is to make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into before making a commitment.
I hate to admit it, but there was a time in my life when I got hooked on infomercials; the ones where just by sitting on some gadget for five minutes a day, I would develop rock-hard abs. Or how with no money down, I could become incredibly wealthy.
Well, if you’re anything like me, you go through life believing the best in people. You feel that most people are honest and trying to deal in integrity, and they would never intentionally mislead you. However, today’s verse reminds us to give serious thought and consideration in our personal and business dealings.
Before jumping too quickly into a deal or making a purchase, do your research and check all the facts. When evaluating your decision, apply the following four steps: First, immediately ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” Secondly, even if I think I need it, can I afford it? Third, does God really want me to have it? And finally, take twenty-four to forty-eight hours to simply stop and pray about it. See if that desire for it goes away, or if the Lord wants you to do it. Be a wise and prudent person, not a simple and foolish one. If you’ll do this, you’ll be applying the truth at work.
