Philippians 2:8 says, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and he became obedient to death, even death on the cross.” This is part four of the series Building A Winning Team. This is about the principle of sacrificing for your team. These words are describing the act that Christ gave up His life for us–His children. If we want to build a great team, whether it’s at work or at home, we must be willing to be great leaders. As we covered in one of our previous segments, we talked about the subject of being a servant leader.
Today’s passage describes the ultimate act of servant leadership–Christ dying for us. In order to be a great leader, we need to be willing to give ourselves up for our team. We must be willing to sacrifice our rights and privileges so the team can be better served. In a way, we must be willing to die for our team.
Remember, as you move up with the amount of responsibility you have to be a true servant leader and to build a truly winning team, you must consider more of what is best for those around you and less of what is best for you. The higher your level of responsibility the more you must sacrifice your privileges.
How about you? Are you sacrificing and giving up for your team? I pray we can all model our lives after Jesus and be willing to let ourselves die in order to serve others. When you do this, you will be applying the truth at work.
