What are the benefits of EDGE?
God created each of us for close personal relationship; first with him and second with one another. This should provide us with an idea of the importance of relationships. God wants us to share our lives with him and with one another. To God, sharing means a close, transparent, authentic, honest and sometimes vulnerable relationship. It is in this context that God helps us grow, mature, and become wiser, It makes sense that we should exercise the same discipline in our relationships at home and in the marketplace. EDGE seeks to create the opportunity for our mentors and mentees to enter into healthy, intimate relationships with one another because we believe this is where real personal, professional, and spiritual growth will occur. We believe that to be a successful leader in today’s marketplace, one must be a life-long learner in all three of these areas.
Learning and Growth
God’s word has a lot to say about wisdom and understanding, and the importance of “getting” both. The Bible says wisdom is “more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.” We see Jesus helping his disciples “get” wisdom, knowledge and understanding by mentoring/discipling them in the midst and context of the normal and everyday dilemmas of life. The Bible also talks about God refining, molding and purifying us. EDGE Mentoring seeks to create an environment for that to occur through a combination of shared content, experiential stories from mentors and mentees, as well as Biblical application. Utilization of books, videos, movies and webinars featuring nationally recognized marketplace leaders sharing their stories and best practices creates the basis for highly interactive one hour mentoring calls two times per month. Between the calls and meetings, each group is able to privately share their thoughts, questions and challenges within the EDGE proprietary on-line forum, “Share IT”.
We were not created to go it alone. God desires a personal relationship with us, and that we live in community with one another. We are to encourage, exhort and in some instances, lovingly rebuke one another.
Proverbs 15:22 tells us that “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” God wants us to seek out wise Godly advisors and mentors, build relationship with them and allow them to help us work through the challenges of each day.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 tells us that “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor; if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
God knows that we will be more successful if we labor together with other like-minded brothers and sisters. God knows we will stumble and fall, and that it can be heartbreaking when we don’t have a friend to lovingly help us up. God knows that we all need someone who will demonstrate the warmth of His love when we feel alone and the world seems cold and hopeless.
And, God knows that in the toughest of times, when it feels like we are under attack and forces we cannot control are overpowering us, we need true friends who will stand firmly by our side, lock arms and help defend us. EDGE provides a great opportunity to build a vast network of godly brothers and sisters, starting with your immediate group and expanding to the vast network of Christian leaders through our parent organization, Truth at Work, which has over 600 members nationwide.
